Mackenzie Creamery produces artisan goat cheese, and the setting was so picturesque I could have spent hours more. The goats Jean Mackenzie keeps are just pets, she told me. She gets her milk from local producers. The pond/marsh is actually a biosphere where gray water from the cheese production is recycled. Pretty awesome.

Have you eaten your greens lately?
Sunshine or not, farm subjects make great pictures. Which is proven so very eloquently by Adonai Acres. I hit this gem in Holmes County on a day that could not have been grayer, yet, I got some of the most precious photographs there.

Over the course of this project, I’ve learned so many new things; others I had forgotten were brought back into the present. For example, the fact that tomatoes taste best directly off the vine.
The photographs below were taken at Boii Gardens. (BTW, for those who saw the other post with the okra flowers, this is where I photographed them on a beautiful September evening.)

I was asked a couple of weeks ago by the Local Roots local food coop whether I’d be interested in taking some photographs of their producers. Of course the answer was “yes”. I went to six farms total, and to-date have gotten through the pictures of four of those. Currently, I’m working on #5.
The next few days I’ll be posting what I consider the “cream” of what I’ve taken. Technically, these are all ad pictures, but me being heavily influenced by art photography, you’ll definitely see that influence in there.
Today’s selection: Breezy Hill Farm near Alliance, OH. Enjoy!

These are part of a project I’ve been shooting for a local food cooperative. They are all okra flowers photographed against the evening sun. I gave them a digital old photo treatment b/c I felt like playing with the pictures. Not sure if I should have just kept them black and white. I may post them as such when I have the whole farm series completely edited. I kind of like the burned orange tint, though…
Enjoy!
